What Is Devine Diaries

WHAT ARE THE

DEVINE DIARIES?

In August of 2012, I packed up my belongings and moved into my office, subletting my apartment and taking up residence on a slice of floor behind my desk. I haven't signed a traditional lease since.

In the years that followed, I saved in excess of $70,000 in rent. The rental market in LA is competitive, inflated. Renters get far less than what they pay for. Instead, I've lived everywhere from my office to my customized truck-home, to a porta potty tiny home on an off-grid backyard farm in LA.

And I did all this without giving up an otherwise vibrant urban, young(ish) professional(ish) existence.

The Devine Diaries was created as a celebration of that lifestyle shift. A collection of my stories--and a few stories from others along the way--told in written and video format. From my office living days to my sustainable tiny home ones. And projects created as a result of this lifestyle shift.

The tiny living movement is well publicized. But much of it relates to those leaving the city. Precious few fuse unorthodox housing choices with a common working person's routine. The Devine Diaries exists to show tiny and intentional living through that lens.

Links to my written and visual journals can be found throughout the site. I'm currently most active on my @devine_diaries Instagram page. A bulk of my original writing can be found on The Office Hobo site, and my newest reports can be found on the Tiny (Toilet) Home Project site. My passion is documenting my experiences intimately and honestly. With a healthy touch of self-deprecation.

Feel free to contact me here by email or via Instagram with questions, comments, and/or stories of your own. And thanks for stopping by and browsing around!
