SCHOLARSHIP HOUSING PROGRAM
My Tiny (Toilet) Home Project wasn’t just about making a statement about urban tiny living possibilities. I’ve been doing research & development on porta-home technologies to find a cheaper, more accessible solution for affordable housing here in Los Angeles.
The aim of the Our Backyard Homes scholarship housing program is to partner with landowners near campus, offering housing scholarships to homeless college students across L.A.
With 1 in 5 of LA’s community college population and 1 in 10 of those enrolled in Cal State University suffering from housing insecurity, it’s up to us as a community to enact change.
I established Our Backyard Homes as a 501c3. Our scholarship program is a reward to students championing through housing insecurity while struggling to better their future through higher education. As a finalist for the 2018 LA County Housing Innovation Challenge grant for up to $1,000,000 (see video above) I know Our Backyard Homes has a bright future ahead of itself. And so do our community’s kids.
